In theory booking your driving test should be easy, but due to covid, there are still huge backlogs when trying to book it.
Please look down the page, for a timeline of roughly WHEN to book your practical test, the timeline will help you figure out a suitable date. Please also forward this link to the people responsible for your lessons and test, if it isn't indeed yourself.
The best situation for your practical test, is that you are ready for it, with time to spare, you can then look for a cancellation, if you are ready sooner then you can look for a cancellation or potentially swap, to bring your test forward.
TIPS:
- Book a practical test for anywhere in the country (you need a test to be able to manipulate the system). Once you have a test, you can use cancellation apps (of which you will need to research) to then add your desired test centre and use the timeline below to get a rough date at the test centre of your choice.
- If you are awake at unsociable hours the official DVSA system tends to update late in the evenings, so it may be worth looking late at night, before you go to bed. Also new tests tend to be released at 6am on monday mornings, so you may be able to book a test at your chosen test centre. It is likely that these will be approximately 5 months ahead.
- If you are dedicated, some of my learners have had success by persistently logging onto the official system and just refreshing the dates. Remember when someone cancels a test, you will catch it here first, usually before it hits the cancellation apps.
- As a driving instructor, I have the ability to request test swaps with my colleagues, and so if you have a local test which is quite a while away, but you are ready, I can see if other instructors have any learners who are not quite ready but their test is approaching and we may be able to facilitate a swap. This will only work if the test centres are the same, and is NOT guaranteed.
- Also a member of the public created a GOOGLE CHROME EXTENSION which can be used in conjunction with the official DVSA platform. This is to be used at your discretion, but some learners have had success. The link is below:
